If you can align the shelf mounting points with wall studs, always use lag bolts into studs for the strongest support.

If you can align the shelf mounting points with wall studs, always use lag bolts into studs for the strongest support. If studs aren’t available at the desired location, use heavy-duty masonry or toggle anchors rated for the expected load and for your wall material.
